Google is about to pull back the curtain on its next batch of Pixel devices on August 12. The company revealed that the Made by Google launch event will be held in New York City on the same Wednesday that start at 6 p.m. Eastern Time. This time slot is a bit earlier than past years, and the event date is a week ahead of last year’s Pixel 10 debut, putting it in front of the early fall hardware season. The invite mentions “the next generation of Pixel” with a shiny, golden metal frame that really does appear to be the aesthetic for what comes next phones.
Based on industry forecasts it will be a proper line up, including the standard 11, the Pixel 11 Pro, a bigger Pixel 11 Pro XL, and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. As is the norm, the fold may come slightly later, but the main phones will be premiering on the 12th. Of course, alongside its new phones, Google is also thought to be launching the Pixel Watch 5. The smartwatch should keep the traditional round shape in both 41 mm and 45 mm sizes. But, there are expected to be improvements such as a brighter display, expanded storage capacity and the newest Wear OS software.
Google is also believed to be focusing more on health and fitness features made possible by Fitbit, and better integration of its AI features, to develop its watch as more of an everyday necessities instead of something fashionable. This year’s is an extra fascinating event because of subtle clues that prices might be increasing. Rumor has it that the foundation storage tier will climb a little higher and that the Pro lineup could push prices in line with industry trends.
After several iterations of improving the Tensor chip and camera systems, Pixel 11 line is expected to keep the attention on computational photography, build-in AI, or refined Android operating system. How the device looks like (new design or focus remains on AI and software) will be evident once the media day starts.
For many Pixel owners the annualMade by Googleshows has become a familiar tradition. It’s one of a handful of hardware announcements left where the focus is so singular, so insularno longer representing a sprawling family of products but a tight-knit system. While it returns to New York for its second year in a row, the slightly later start time might allow more to view it live.
Apart from the hardware, the event is a platform for Google to demonstrate how it plans to use its range of phones, watches and software working in unison, with subppoints such as hassle-free unlocking between watch and phone, more advanced AI features and tighter integration of health data.
